Organisation of the Study Programme and Teaching
The education includes compulsory, general education and professional courses, that is, fundamental medical, preclinical, clinical and public health subjects, through which students acquire knowledge and skills from all areas of physiotherapy. In addition to compulsory courses, a certain number of elective courses is also enrolled.
Teaching is conducted in the form of lectures, practical exercises, seminars, demonstrations and consultations at the teaching bases of the Faculty of Health Studies of the University of Rijeka. Teaching in the form of professional practice is carried out in clinical hospital centres, county hospitals, general and specialised hospitals, as well as health centres. In fundamental medical subjects, the student becomes familiar with the structure and function of the human body, with particular reference to the structure and function of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
In preclinical subjects, the basics of physiotherapy are studied, that is, the mechanisms and methods of action of physical therapy on individual tissues, organs and organ systems. In clinical subjects, the application of physiotherapy in individual diseases is studied, with mandatory acquisition of knowledge and skills in the habilitation of children and in the rehabilitation of children and adults. Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that finds its application in persons of all age groups, and in addition to physiotherapeutic procedures in disease, it includes procedures of health promotion and prevention, as well as habilitation and rehabilitation.
During the study, the student becomes familiar with the basics of scientific research, medical statistics and medical informatics. At the end of the study, a final thesis is defended.

After Graduation
Upon completion of the study, the Professional Bachelor of Physiotherapy will have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to perform professional work that includes procedures of health promotion, prevention and treatment of disease, as well as habilitation and rehabilitation.
The Professional Bachelor of Physiotherapy will work in accordance with the principles of medical ethics, respecting international codes of conduct in healthcare. They are an active member of a professional rehabilitation team and, together with a physician of the appropriate specialisation, plan and implement kinesitherapeutic procedures and apply other physical procedures, taking into account an individual approach to the patient based on a holistic principle.
The Professional Bachelor of Physiotherapy will be able to assess the need for education and apply the principles and techniques of teaching individuals, families and the community. In addition, they will be able to recognise their own needs and opportunities for further learning, follow related sciences and apply knowledge in their profession, monitor research in physiotherapy and participate in it.
