Erasmus is part of the Lifelong Learning Programme within which it is possible to participate in individual and group mobility, as well as in European educational projects. It is the most successful student exchange programme in the world, but teaching and non-teaching staff of the Faculty can also participate in the programme.
Participation in the Erasmus and Erasmus+ programmes at the Faculty of Health Studies is fully implemented through cooperation with the University, starting from autumn 2014, when the Faculty began operating as one of the constituents of the University of Rijeka.
The Erasmus+ programme is the largest European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport. It enables the acquisition of new knowledge, experience and skills for all generations – from preschool to older age. The new Erasmus+ programme, thanks to an almost doubled budget compared to the previous programme, amounting to 26 billion euros, will in the period 2021–2027 be even more inclusive and innovative, and aligned with the digital and green transition.
The University of Rijeka has participated in the Erasmus programme since the academic year 2009/2010. Over fifteen academic years, more than 2800 students and 1300 staff members of the University have participated in the programme. Furthermore, since 2011, when Croatia fully joined Erasmus, the University has hosted more than 3400 incoming Erasmus students and 1500 incoming staff members. By decision of the European Commission, the University of Rijeka was awarded a new Erasmus Charter for Higher Education in 2021 for participation in the Erasmus+ programme for the period 2021–2027 (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 101005205-UNIRI).

ESN RIJEKA
ESN Rijeka was founded in 2012 as the second ESN section in Croatia. The journey was long, but we have grown from a very small group of people into a well-organised team of 30 members who take their tasks seriously, but always with excellent spirit and high motivation. ESN Rijeka highly values friendly relationships among its members; we feel like a family, which results in excellent communication and team spirit. One of our strengths is completing tasks together and through cooperation among teams so that all our members are active and involved.
We are proud of the Event team for their creative ideas and hard work for all events, whether large or small; the SocialErasmus team, which has proven to be active and highly socially sensitive in many aspects of social inclusion, even crossing the Atlantic Ocean for the most recognised SE event we had (Cups for Cuba); the Travel team, which takes us across Croatia and beyond to Austria, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. And last but not least – the PR team, ensuring that all exchange students, local students and members are informed about everything happening in Rijeka.
Being an ESNer does not only mean being a “buddy”, it means being a friend and someone to rely on, and that is what students in Rijeka get from our section.
