Midwifery

Organisation of the Study Programme and Teaching

The education of the Bachelor of Midwifery is delivered in the form of lectures, seminars, practical exercises, demonstrations and practical work.

In general medical subjects, the student becomes familiar with the structure and function of the human organism. In preclinical subjects, the mechanisms of disease development, their causes and the modes of action of medicines are studied. In clinical medical subjects, diseases are studied, including their recognition, prevention and treatment.

During the study, the student is also introduced to the basics of statistics, informatics and scientific research methodology. A large number of courses include specific midwifery care.

Teaching is organised in rotations, and after completing each course, students take an examination. Knowledge and skills in the midwifery profession are acquired through clinical professional practice integrated into each midwifery care course.

Teaching of professional courses is carried out at the Clinic for Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Clinical Hospital Centre, as well as in primary healthcare and gynaecological outpatient clinics.

At the end of the study, a final thesis is defended.

The Midwifery study programme is fully aligned with the requirements of EU Directive 2005/36/EC and the Act on Regulated Professions.
